Project:
Devise and install a training facility that would help to create one of Europe's most advanced clinical skills laboratories
Background:
Scotia UK had successfully designed and installed dental training facilities in a number of UK universities. Our client wanted to build on these successes to create a state-of-the-art, user-friendly facility that would attract dental students from all over Europe.
Solution:
The facility devised by Scotia UK consists of no fewer than 62 hi-tech simulators, each of which is connected to a dual tutor control unit in the centre of the room. Ceiling mounted cameras and an operating microscope above the console allow the tutor to transmit live pictures of a patient 'operation' as it is being conducted. Each simulator is equipped with a 15 inch high definition monitor that allows the student to see exactly what is going on - in graphic detail. Crucially, each student can put into practice what he or she is learning using their simulator ' s own mannequin head. The real beauty of this system is that it can be installed into existing university or hospital buildings, making it a highly cost-effective and highly impactful system to commission.
Equipment:
Crestron control systems
Cat5 signal distribution system
Canon ceiling mounted cameras
Digidoc wireless camera
Allen & Heath iDR digital processor
